John Leslie Pickens
April 17, 1946 - August 8, 2025
John Leslie Pickens was a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering love. He devoted his life to raising his four children after his beloved wife Honey passed away, living each day with purpose, sacrifice, and humility. John was selfless, choosing to love those others overlooked, always ready to help anyone in need. He was resourceful, frugal, and beyond generous. His steady presence, strong character, and ability to fix almost anything made him a source of comfort and reliability to all who knew him.
To his family, John was more than a father and grandfather. He was a protector, a provider, and a constant friend. He poured himself fully into his children and grandchildren, always keeping them in his thoughts. He was the strongest man both physically and emotionally, a man of great character and consistent faith.
John was the beloved father of Andrew and Rachel Pickens, Robyn and Ismael Lopez, Brian and Andrealyn Pickens, and Lauren and Andrew Scienski. He was the proud grandfather of Olivia, John, Madilyn, Luke, Danielle, Sean, Mark, Micah, Matthew, Bryn, Judah, Charles, Iris, and Eloise. He was the dear brother of Mary Ellen (Thomas) McCants, Christine (late Raymond) Dwyer, and Margaret Pickens, and brother-in-law to Rita “Cissy” (Harry Gordon) Schoenfeld and Lynn (Mal) Pollack.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Helene “Honey” Pickens, father James Pickens, mother Mary Pickens, sister Patricia Wagster, and brother-in-law Edward Whitefield.
