James M. Harrington

James M. Harrington, age 76, of Crestwood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026.

James was a hardworking man, a talented craftsman, and a true jack of all trades. He was the kind of person who could fix, build, create, or figure out just about anything put in front of him. Give James a problem and a little time, and chances were he would find his own way to solve it.

He especially enjoyed woodworking and creating art, taking ordinary pieces of wood and everyday materials and turning them into something useful or meaningful. His ability to work with his hands was more than a talent. It reflected the way James approached life: independent, resourceful, creative, and never afraid to do things his own way.

But the things James built were only part of the life he leaves behind. Far more important were the people he loved and the family that surrounded him.

James was the loving father of Melissa (Joe) Heitz and the proud grandfather of Ryan Heitz and Samantha Heitz.

He was the dear brother of Patricia Burke, Theresa (Jim) Gory, and John (Stephanie) Harrington.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Helen M and John E. Harrington, and his brothers, Chuck Harrington and Thomas Harrington.

Those who knew James will remember a man who worked hard, knew how to make things with his own two hands, and cared deeply for the people who mattered to him. His craftsmanship can be seen in the things he created, but his greatest legacy will be found in his family and in the stories, memories, and pieces of himself he leaves with them.

James’s family will celebrate his life privately on October 17, 2026.
